Project Case Study

Heinz Field "Great Hall"
Pittsburgh, PA

With Heinz Field’s grand opening game only days away, Nathan Contracting was called in desperation. Work requested was the removal of the green stain that was applied to the fresh concrete floor surface at the "Great Hall" location. The "Great Hall" was intended to be the focal-point for the new stadium, representing the heroes and legends throughout the history of the Pittsburgh Steeler’s. When the stain cured, it turned the floor of this focal-point into an eye-sore due to the fact that the color was not consistent, nor appealing throughout the entire 60,000 square foot area. With only 3 days remaining until the grand opening of the stadium, it was our job to remove the existing surface by shot blasting the stain off in time for a new product and finish to be applied. Crews worked around the clock so that this could all be accomplished in time for the enthusiastic fans of Pittsburgh.

Other work that Nathan Contracting performed at Heinz Field was:
  • Repair of the low spots in the existing concrete. These areas in cold weather would create ice hazards due the fact that the low spots were holding water.
  • Re-alignment of the concrete floors. To eliminate trip hazards, the concrete in front of the new retail stores needed to be realigned to match the glass facades.
