Project Case Study

University of Akron, Auburn Science Center
Parking Deck and Plaza Repairs

With future plans to expand the library and add new classrooms, the University of Akron decided to also perform the much needed remediation work to the connecting five level parking garage. Work began in December 2000 and was completed by June 2001. Nathan Contracting worked hand-in-hand with the University of Akron, and Welty Building Company, Ltd. making certain that the work was performed with as little inconvenience as possible to the students and faculty of the University and without compromising the progress schedule and milestones of the project.

The scope of restoration work included over 36,000 square feet of parking deck repairs, over 4,600 lineal feet of carbon fiber reinforcement in the existing classrooms and laboratories, crack repair by epoxy injection and numerous repair of spalls on beams, columns, walls and under slabs. To complete the project, the entire garage was painted. The painting included the ceilings, walls and columns of each level of the garage. Finally, the exterior courtyard and planter areas were waterproofed to complete the job.
